Navy Destroys N3bn Illegal Refineries In Special Operation

The Nigerian Navy has crushed 40 illicit refineries, hardware and petroleum items esteemed at N3 billion in an uncommon operation in the Niger Delta.

The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Eastern Naval Command, Rear Adm. James Oluwole, uncovered this in Port Harcourt on Saturday at the finish of the principal period of "Operation River Sweep I."

"Over a few months now, we have found that bunches of illicit refineries are working inside the zone with stealthily and uniquely planned delved in kayaks moving stolen petroleum items.

"In the operation, two vessels MV Lewis Ejiro and MV Lady Swithin were appropriated while 40 illicit refineries, 60 extensive wooden and speed water crafts stacked with 5.24 million liters of diesel were crushed.

"Different things recuperated by troops included three generators, 16 pumping machines, two welding machines, three detachable motors and two hoses.

"The aggregate evaluated misfortune for the crushed illicit refineries and other gear is about N3 billion".

Oluwole said that five presumed oil criminals were captured amid the operation and gave over to important arraigning offices.

He said the operation was effective because of the utilization of Swamp Buggy machines which totally pulverized metallic tanks and denied oil criminals capacity to restore the obliterated refineries.

The FOC said the operation had lessened spate of assaults on oil and gas establishments and ocean robbery, especially in the Onne and connecting rivulets in the zone.
